Ogunquit Museum of American Art: a landmark of American modernism set amid gardens, sculpture, and Atlantic light.

Founded by artist Henry Strater and opened in 1953, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art grew directly out of Ogunquit's deep artistic history and its connection to some of America's earliest art communities. Located south of Perkins Cove along Shore Road, the museum occupies one of the most beautiful settings in town: three acres overlooking Narrow Cove and the Atlantic, including a magnificent rocky outcropping where visitors can stand and watch the surf break below.

Its collection reflects both local heritage and a broader American story, with important paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints, and photographs from the late nineteenth century to the present. The museum's holdings and exhibitions connect Ogunquit's own artistic past to the wider currents of American modernism, making it not only a place of beauty, but a place of serious cultural memory.
